Born on May 30, 1902, Giuseppina Projetto became Europe's oldest person last December, and was the second oldest person in the world when she passed away in her home in Tuscany last Friday.

She had said eating chocolate daily and staying positive were the secrets to her longevity.

As of last Friday, Maria Giuseppa Robucci follows in her footsteps as Europe’s oldest person and the world’s third oldest person.

Known locally as “Nonna Peppa”, Robucci was born on March 20, 1903, and lives with her daughter Filomena and son-in-law, according to local media.

She has five children, nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, and previously managed a bar with her husband, who died in 1982.

Robucci is also Italy’s oldest mayor and was named honorary mayor of her hometown, Poggio Imperiale, in 2015.
