The second edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World will take place from November 20 - 27. The aim of this initiative is to promote Italy’s culinary tradition all over the world. The event intends to provide continuity to the themes successfully developed by Expo Milano 2015 and to highlight the role played by the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic network. The initiative will take place in 100+ Countries with an agenda of 1,200+ events including conferences, tastings, thematic dinners, exhibitions on culinary themes and technical and scientific workshops. The Italian Consulate in Perth is proud to present the following events: November 19, 11:00am - 3:00 pm: World of Food Festival. Italian Stall. World of Food Festival is an annual event held at Government House Gardens where communities from around Perth come together to celebrate food. Italy will be represented by wood-fired pizza and gelato. There will be cultural performances from different communities and various activities for the kids. Entry is free. November 23, from 6:30 pm: Pizza-making and wine-tasting at L’Antica (by invitation only). The event celebrates “pizza napoletana” and Italy’s claim to include Neapolitan pizza-making in Unesco’s prestigious cultural heritage. The night will be also an occasion to taste Italian wine and highlight the importance of its classifications (IGT, DOC or DOCG quality). November 26, 3: 00 pm - 4:00 pm: 'Foods from Pompeii' seminar at WA Maritime Museum. Exactly what tastes of food could people have enjoyed in the towns and countryside around the Bay of Naples in the shadow of Vesuvius? Dr Moya Smith, WAM curator for Escape from 'Pompeii: The Untold Roman Rescue', will discuss what we know of ancient foods from the exhibition, as well as ancient sources, including Pliny the Elder’s 37 volume Natural Histories. She will include some recipes for the more adventurous to try at home.
